Headed up by pitmaster Michael Wheeler and owner Candis Haney, the Lazy Goat is a food truck bringing Bradenton the “Best BBQ in town.” And now, it’s preparing to move into a permanent brick-and-mortar home at 2001 Ninth St W!
If you’re from the Bradenton area, you may, in fact, have already encountered the Lazy Goat’s food truck set up there.
“We had a food truck for about 6 months this year,” Candis Haney told What Now on Monday. “And we were pushing that, but we just needed more space. Our food is not food truck food.”
It’s true: with plans to serve up BBQ twice a week, along with Southern cuisine like smothered chicken, meatloaf with all the fixings, breakfast sandwiches, and a killer Cuban sandwich, Lazy Goat’s menu does not seem like something easily made on the go. Haney says the Lazy Goat project has been underway for about two years, growing quite simply, out of a love for making great food—along with a realization that it really is great.
“I met my partner, who smokes meats, and it all started with just cooking for the family. And eventually we thought, We really have some good things going here.”
Once it launches, the Lazy Goat will serve food from 11 a.m. until sold out, so that, as Haney says, “everything is always fresh, served the way we want to eat it.”
The Lazy Goat is expected to launch in about a month’s time. Meanwhile, you can keep up with all things Lazy Goat by following them on Facebook.
