The building at 653 Central Avenue, formerly occupied by DalMoros Fresh Pasta To Go, will soon be the home of your new go-to for authentic Greek food. Central Gyros, the restaurant opening there next year, is a brand-new concept from Vjollca Dervishi, who also owns Tony’s Pizza.
“It’s going to be authentic Greek food,” Dervishi told What Now on Friday. “Souvlaki, Greek Salad, gyros, tzatziki, and desserts like baklava.”
The Central Gyros team is set to take over the space in January with the hopes of an opening in February, Dervishi said.
“The new restaurant will include towers of lamb, chicken, and pork slow-roasting on vertical rotisseries before being carved to order for gyros, shawarma, and kebabs,” says coverage by St. Pete Rising, describing Central Gyros’ food offerings. “Diners will be able to customize pitas and rice platters with their choice of meats, toppings, and house-made sauces, including a classic tzatziki.”
Plans are still being worked out for how to best utilize the narrow space, but some seating is expected inside, along with several tables outside.
“We’re also going to hopefully do free delivery for Downtown St. Pete,” Dervishi said. “And we’ll have a catering menu too.”
