Arthur’s Snackette, a sourdough bagel shop from the team behind Montreal’s Arthur’s, is getting ready to open in Toronto at 684 St Clair Ave West.
The new shop is set to open on April 11, 2026, moving into the former home of Becked Goods, according to TorontoLife. Founded by Dara Gallinger and Raegan Steinberg, along with partners Alex Cohen and Ari Zuckerbrot, the concept brings a focused bagel program to the neighborhood. The shop is expected to operate on weekends to start. Customers can expect sourdough bagels served with a range of spreads and simple toppings.
The St. Clair West location will also serve as a testing ground for future growth as the team continues developing the concept. A larger Toronto location is already in the works, with plans to expand further across Canada. Future expansion into the United States is also being considered as the brand grows.
Arthur’s Snackette builds on the Arthur’s brand, a Montreal-based restaurant group known for its approach to comfort food and baked goods. This Toronto opening introduces the concept in a smaller, more focused format. The laneway location offers a compact setting while bringing the brand to a new market. The space will operate as both a standalone shop and part of a broader expansion plan.
Gallinger and Steinberg met about 20 years ago while attending McGill University and have discussed opening a business together since then. Gallinger is also the co-founder of Brodflour, while Steinberg is part of Arthur’s Nosh Bar. The team worked with fermentation expert David Mattachioni to refine the bagel recipe. Production is expected to start at around 400 bagels per day.
The menu centers on sourdough bagels that are naturally leavened, fermented for 35 hours, then boiled and baked. Offerings include open-faced options with butter, cream cheese, smoked salmon, almond butter and jam, and egg salad. Ingredients are sourced from suppliers such as Tony’s Cheese and Smoke Bloke, along with a sprinkle cookie from Arthur’s Nosh Bar.
