Bao Mama, a Filipino and Asian-inspired restaurant known for serving bao, is opening a new permanent location at the Square One mall food court in Mississauga.

The new location is expected to open in Fall 2025, according to Insauga, although an exact opening date has not been announced. Updates will be shared through Bao Mama’s social media. When this location opens, customers can expect a full menu of bao filled with Filipino and Asian-inspired flavors, made with scratch-made buns and house-made sauces.

Bao Mama’s signature dish is the bao, a steamed bun typically filled with meat or vegetables. The restaurant prepares its buns from scratch and uses house-made sauces. Menu options include the “PNoy Boy” BBQ Pork bao, “PNoy Chick” Chicken Adobo bao, “Hip-Hip-On” Crispy Shrimp bao, and the vegetarian “Me-So-Veg” Tofu & Mushroom bao.

The restaurant launched as a pop-up in Scarborough in 2020. It now operates a flagship location in Oshawa and runs a seasonal pop-up at the Toronto harbourfront. In 2023, Bao Mama also hosted a one-week pop-up at Square One’s Food District. The upcoming permanent location marks the next step in the brand’s steady growth and return to a familiar, high-traffic setting.

Bao Mama will join a handful of other restaurants and retailers in the shopping center, including Earls Kitchen + Bar, Moxies, The Keg Steakhouse + Bar, and Reds Wine Tavern.. Square One features over 100 food options and draws high foot traffic. Rock’ N Deli is set to open in August 2025, offering Montreal-style smoked meat, while Shake Shack is also planning a location.
