After years of transformation, it appears the Pompette team is preparing to open a new aperitivo-style bar, Bar Allegro, at 597 College Street in Toronto.

The new restaurant is set to replace Vinotecca Pompette, which will remain open until January 4, 2026, according to a social media announcement from the team. Bar Allegro will return to the original 2020 concept, focusing on cocktails, wines, and elevated sharing plates. Customers can expect a casual, welcoming atmosphere paired with refined, easy-to-enjoy drinks and food.

Pompette originally opened as a French restaurant, praised for its elegant, French-inspired menu. The restaurant later transformed into Vinotecca Pompette, adding Italian influences and offering dishes such as tuna crudo, hand-rolled filled pasta, whole Quebec duck breast, braised short rib, a gourmet burger, pavlova, and panna cotta. The evolution reflected both culinary experimentation and adjustments to pandemic-era dining restrictions.

Bar Allegro marks a shift back to a bar-focused format, emphasizing casual, social dining with small plates designed for sharing. The concept aims to capture a refined version of “hanging out with friends at home,” with an approachable yet elevated menu and curated drink offerings. Renovations are currently underway, with an early 2026 opening targeted.

The Pompette team also operates a nearby bakery and bar under the same name, both of which remain popular in the College Street neighborhood. Their continued presence reflects a commitment to the area and to providing a range of dining experiences for local customers.

“Vinoteca Pompette becomes Bar Allegro,” according to the recent company announcement made on social media.
”Opening early 2026.

Sharing plates, elevated snacks. A refined version of “hanging out with friends at home.” Easy going, welcoming, spontaneous, quality drinks and food.
Bar Allegro brings us back to our original 2020 idea: a bar focused on cocktails, wines, and snacks to share. Covid pushed us into a restaurant format. Now we return to what inspired us from the start.

Join us throughout December until January 4 and celebrate Vinoteca Pompette for one last month.

We look forward to welcoming you at Bar Allegro after a short renovation.”
