Cookeys, a new cookie-focused bakery, is getting ready to open in Toronto at 1430 Yonge Street, near Yonge and St. Clair.
The bakery is expected to open around mid-February 2026, according to founder Anastasiia Ovchynnikova. The storefront is currently in the final stages of construction, and Ovchynnikova tells What Now Toronto that an official opening announcement will be shared soon. Customers can expect handcrafted, generously sized cookies made with high-quality ingredients, along with coffee-based beverages.
Cookeys is designed to be more than just a bakery, offering a warm, welcoming interior where the focus is on creating comforting, joyful experiences. The brand’s logo features a skeleton key with a bow-shaped cookie, reflecting the bakery’s mission to make each visit memorable and meaningful. Ovchynnikova, a member of a Ukrainian family who relocated to Canada due to the war, tells What Now that the bakery represents both a new beginning and a way to give back to the community.
“As a Ukrainian family who was forced to leave our home because of the war, Canada has given us something incredibly precious — safety, opportunity, and faith,” Ovchynnikova said. “We are deeply grateful to this country for welcoming us, for the kindness of the people we keep meeting along the way, and for the chance to rebuild our lives doing what we love.”
Cookeys will feature a selection of cookies made from scratch, with a focus on both classic flavors and seasonal creations. In addition to cookies, the bakery will serve coffee-based drinks, allowing customers to enjoy a complete treat in-store or to take home.
“We will do everything we can to honour that trust, to build our brand with integrity, and to give back to Canada by creating something warm, meaningful, and made with real care,” Ovchynnikova tells What Now.
