Dear Grain, a well-known artisanal sourdough bakery, is getting ready to expand into Roncesvalles with a new location at 175 Roncesvalles Avenue.
The company’s new location will replace Tim Horton’s, according to YourCityWithin. Set to open in Spring 2025, the new Dear Grain bakery will bring its popular lineup of sourdough breads, seasonal pastries, and espresso drinks from Detour Roasters to the west end. The space will feature a warm, wood-accented interior designed to feel like a cozy bread box, echoing the vibe of their flagship store at 48 Ossington Ave. Customers can expect fan favorites like Classic Country Loaf, Super Seeded Loaf, rotating cheese breads, sandwiches, spreads, and gourmet pantry goods. Home bakers will also find a curated selection of flours, proofing baskets, and baking tools.
Dear Grain was founded in 2018 in Hamilton to make naturally leavened bread that’s as nourishing and delicious. Using high hydration levels and slow fermentation, their breads develop deep flavor and stay fresh longer than conventional loaves. In 2023, they expanded to Toronto with their Ossington Sourdough Studio, gaining a loyal following for their breads and beautifully designed space. Their menu includes pastries like buttery brioche buns and savory creations filled with eggs and Mornay sauce, all baked daily. From sandwiches to take-home loaves, everything is crafted with care and a focus on quality.
Sustainability is central to Dear Grain’s philosophy, according to the company’s website. They source organic, locally milled flours, support Ontario grain farmers, and reduce food waste by turning unsold bread into new products like crostinis and desserts. Packaging is kept minimal and compostable, and their retail spaces are designed with natural materials to reflect their earth-first approach. As the bakery grows, it remains dedicated to small-batch, handcrafted baking. With the Roncesvalles location, Dear Grain is bringing its thoughtful, flavor-forward approach to even more of Toronto.
