The owners behind El Pocho Antojitos Bar, a gluten-free Mexican snack bar based in Toronto, are getting ready to expand with a new concept called El Chino Antojitos Bar.

Although an address has not yet been disclosed, the new restaurant is expected to open in the city, according to an Instagram post that the company used to tease the upcoming concept in late August. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the post hinted at a 2025 launch. Customers can likely expect a casual bar and restaurant format similar to El Pocho, featuring Mexican-inspired dishes and cocktails.

El Pocho is located at 2 Follis Avenue in The Annex and has become known for its entirely gluten-free menu and relaxed neighborhood vibe. The restaurant features a covered patio and hosts regular events, including Taco Tuesdays and weekend brunch. Since opening, it has attracted a steady following with its scratch-made tacos, birria poutine, grilled corn, and house churros.

This expansion marks the company’s first new concept since launching El Pocho. No further details have been shared regarding El Chino’s culinary direction, design, or how it will differ from the original. It remains unclear whether El Chino will also be entirely gluten-free.

El Pocho describes its mission as creating a welcoming space that brings together food, drinks, and community. The restaurant is owned by a small, locally based team and has built its brand through grassroots marketing and word-of-mouth.

“The call you’ve been waiting for… El Chino Antojitos Bar. A new chapter is about to begin — our new restaurant is coming soon to Toronto,” the company shared via Instagram.
