Shake Shack, the U.S.-based fast-food chain specializing in shakes and burgers, is expanding throughout the Greater Toronto Area, with six new locations scheduled to open by mid-2026.
Previously, What Now Toronto reported on Shake Shack’s planned arrival at Square One. Now, the company is planning to expand to even more sites across the Greater Toronto Area, following successful launches at Yonge & Dundas in June 2024, Union Station in December 2024, and Yorkdale Shopping Centre in February 2025, according to Retail Insider. Shake Shack has partnered with Toronto-based firms Osmington Inc. and Harlo Entertainment Inc. to bring the brand to Canada.
The first of the six new locations has already opened inside Kitchen Hub Castlefield at 1121 Castlefield Avenue. The next will open at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga on August 19, 2025, in a 2,400-square-foot space featuring an indoor patio. This will be followed by sites at Yonge & Eglinton, Vaughan Mills, King West, and Yonge & Bloor, with the final two locations expected to open by mid-2026.
The Vaughan Mills restaurant will be the brand’s first Canadian food court location, occupying approximately 860 square feet. Meanwhile, the upcoming King West and Yonge & Bloor restaurants will open in high-profile downtown Toronto locations, including a historic building once home to the Albert Britnell Bookstore.
“The energy we’ve seen from Canadian guests since day one has been incredible,” Billy Richmond, Business Director of Shake Shack Canada, tells Retail Insider. “This next chapter is about more than opening doors, it’s about showing up for the communities we serve.”
Shake Shack’s Canadian menu features 100% Canadian beef, chicken, and dairy, along with locally sourced potatoes for its crinkle-cut fries. Several menu items, including the Maple Salted Pretzel Shake and the I Heart Butter Tart concrete, were developed exclusively for the Canadian market.
The company is also incorporating Canadian artists into the design of new locations. At Square One, Anishinaabe artist Blake Angeconeb will contribute artwork, while Kirsten McCrea will bring her signature mural style to the Yonge & Eglinton Shack.
Shake Shack plans to open at least 35 locations in Canada over the next decade, with further expansion anticipated in provinces such as British Columbia and Alberta.
