J&G Fried Chicken, a Taiwanese fried chicken brand known for its made-to-order popcorn chicken, is set to open its first location in Downtown Toronto.

The new restaurant will bring the iconic flavors of Taiwan to the East Coast of North America, according to YourCityWithin. The Toronto location, opening soon, will mark J&G’s first foray into the region, following its successful expansion across North America. The brand’s first North American location opened in Burnaby, BC, in 2018, with additional locations in Richmond and Burnaby. A representative from the company tells What Now Toronto that Eva Tang, the Managing Partner for J&G Fried Chicken Canada, will oversee the operations of this site.

While an exact opening date has not been confirmed, the new Toronto spot will be the company’s first on the East Coast. Customers can expect the signature popcorn chicken, deep-fried cuttlefish balls, and crispy calamari, as well as a variety of refreshing drinks like iced teas, fruit drinks, and unique options such as sparkling peach yogurt.

Founded in 1973 as a street cart in Taichung, Taiwan, J&G Fried Chicken grew from a local favorite into a global chain. The brand became known for its signature dish, the made-to-order popcorn chicken, which quickly gained a loyal following. In the 2000s, the company expanded into a chain, and by 2010, it began its international expansion. Today, J&G has over 500 locations worldwide, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Canada.

With the Toronto expansion, J&G Fried Chicken continues to build on its reputation for high-quality, consistent fried chicken. The company emphasizes strict standardization in cooking, ensuring that each location delivers the same fresh and delicious flavors. The Toronto location is expected to attract a wide variety of food lovers, from those seeking authentic Taiwanese street food to those eager to try the brand’s unique menu offerings.

The Toronto location’s significance is underscored by its place in the company’s broader expansion strategy. J&G Fried Chicken’s East Coast debut will provide a new culinary destination for both locals and tourists. The restaurant’s focus on quality control and innovative menu items is expected to make it a hit in Toronto’s dynamic food scene.

“We are super excited to announce that we will be opening the first J&G location in Downtown Toronto!” the company posted on Instagram. “We are stoked to be in Toronto to share some fried chicken love.”

The restaurant’s menu offers a mix of fried chicken, seafood options, and specialty drinks, ensuring that there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s the signature popcorn chicken or the Italian-style cuttlefish tempura, J&G Fried Chicken aims to bring a taste of Taiwan’s street food culture to Toronto, one crispy bite at a time.
