Jimmy John’s, the U.S.-based sandwich chain known for its “freaky fast” service, is opening a new location in Toronto at 299 King Street West.
The company’s latest location will occupy the former space of N’Awlins Jazz Bar & Grill, which closed permanently in 2020 after 25 years in business due to pandemic-related restrictions, according to 6ixRetail. Construction for the new store is already underway, though an exact opening date has yet to be confirmed. Customers can expect to enjoy Jimmy John’s signature fast-service sandwiches, including both cold and toasted options, made fresh daily with premium ingredients.
This Toronto opening is part of Foodtastic’s broader expansion strategy, the Montreal-based company holding the Canadian franchise rights for Jimmy John’s. This marks the latest step in the chain’s Canadian rollout, following the opening of its first Canadian location in Toronto in 2024, with more locations planned in Winnipeg, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Barrie by the end of 2025.
Foodtastic, which owns several major restaurant brands including Pita Pit and Freshii, has committed to opening 200 Jimmy John’s locations in Canada over the next decade, with most to be franchisee-owned. The King West neighborhood, known for its mix of entertainment and residential spaces, is an ideal fit for Jimmy John’s concept, offering both daytime and evening traffic.
Jimmy John’s menu will include the brand’s signature sandwiches, freshly baked bread, and house-made sides like Jimmy Chips. As an exclusive for the Canadian market, the store will also offer toasted sandwiches, catering to Canadians’ preference for hot sandwiches. Customers can also enjoy a selection of sides and beverages, including Sweet Street cookies and specialty sauces.
Jimmy John’s was founded in 1983 by Jimmy John Liautaud in Charleston, Illinois, and has since grown to more than 2,600 locations in the U.S. Known for its focus on speed and quality, the chain prepares fresh meats and vegetables daily in each store. Its fast-casual dining concept is designed for efficiency, with sandwiches made fresh to order in minutes.
