At the middle of the W Toronto Hotel’s major transformation is TONO by Akira Back, a rooftop restaurant set to open doors at the property in October.

Michelin-starred Chef Akira Back is expected to rock the top of the hotel with a blend of Japanese precision and Peruvian Passion for this new concept, according to a press release issued by the hotel. The widely celebrated chef, known for his rebellious yet refined culinary style, promises a menu that pays tribute to tradition and his flair for pushing boundaries in flavor and mise en place.

Though further details have yet to be unveiled by the W, TONO’s website confirms that the new hot rooftop spot is expected to hit Yorkville this fall.

Along with the Michelin-starred back fore, this fall the W Toronto Hotel at 90 Bloor St E., will debut the brand’s signature lobby lounge, The Living Room, open doors to worldwide lounge, Chapi Chapo Design, and host local coffee maker, Barocco.

All part of the multi-level transformation that the W is calling Volume II, the opening of TONO by Akira Back is intended to set the tone for a memorable experience for travelers and locals alike. Touted as “Japanese mastery meets Peruvian soul,” on its website, TONO by Akira Back presents Nikkei cuisine to the Toronto community in a way that may not yet have been experienced.

As the experience develops and more details are revealed, the boundaries of flavour that Chef Akira Back pushes will be at the forefront, or rather, rooftop, of a bold new era coming to downtown Toronto.

“Reimagining Living Room on the ground floor was about creating synergy between W and the city,” Elie Sassine, General Manager of W Toronto Hotel, said in a press release. “Now, when you walk through our doors, you are immersed in the heart of the hotel, where Toronto’s originality and the true identity of the W Hotels brand come to life. Whether guests join us for coffee at sunrise or cocktails at night, Living Room is where the experience culminates.”
