Moxies, a Canadian upscale casual dining restaurant, plans to reopen in Barrie at Park Place in 2026.
The new location will open after Moxie’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre restaurant closes, according to Retail Insider. That location’s last day of operation will be on January 17, 2026, following 18 years of operation. Joanne Forrester, President and COO of Moxies, describes the closure as part of the company’s evolving real estate and growth strategy. It is unclear when the new Barrie location will reopen, but when it does, customers can expect the same handcrafted dishes, signature cocktails, and award-winning hospitality that Moxies is known for across its other locations.
Moxies was founded in Calgary in 1986 as a deli-style diner and has grown to more than 50 locations across Canada and the United States. The brand operates 19 other locations in Ontario and has been updating its restaurants with redesigns and culinary enhancements to remain competitive in the upscale casual dining segment. The Barrie reopening reflects the company’s focus on refining its footprint rather than retreating from key markets.
The Park Place location will provide Moxies with a fresh, modern space in a growing retail and dining hub. The restaurant is expected to feature indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar, and an inviting atmosphere designed for both casual meals and group dining. The move to Park Place allows Moxies to remain accessible to Barrie’s residents and visitors while updating its dining environment.
Customers can expect menu highlights from Executive Chef Brandon Thordarson, including house-made dishes, fresh flavors, and innovative presentations. From handcrafted cocktails to premium entrees and seasonal offerings, Moxies continues to emphasize quality, consistency, and hospitality. Forrester tells What Now that the company is “committed to making Moxies the best part of your day,” a principle that will carry over to the new Barrie location.
