Shawarma Royale, a fast-casual chain specializing in Syrian-style shawarma, is expanding its footprint across the Greater Toronto Area with multiple new locations that have recently opened or are coming soon.
The growing brand, founded by Mohammed Roumia, currently operates over a dozen locations throughout the region, with addresses in Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto, Oakville, Etobicoke, Burlington, Hamilton, and Barrie, among others. The company lists more than 20 active GTA locations on its website, including several in downtown Toronto along Yonge Street, Queen Street West, Danforth Avenue, and Eglinton Avenue East.
Recent openings include storefronts at 6039 Erin Mills Parkway in Mississauga, 5435 Dundas Street West in Etobicoke, 1035 Brant Street in Burlington, and 1786 Stone Church Road East on Hamilton Mountain.
Additional locations are planned for cities across Ontario, including Waterloo, Brantford, Cambridge, Guelph, and others. Two locations outside Ontario—Calgary and Lethbridge- are also marked as “coming soon,” according to the company’s website. It’s unclear if these locations are franchised.
Shawarma Royale was founded in Waterloo, Ontario, and is based on a 150-year-old Syrian shawarma recipe that has been passed down through generations. The concept has since evolved into a franchise-led brand operating under the Vessel Group, for which Roumia serves as Founder and CEO.
Menu offerings include chicken, veal, and lamb shawarma served as wraps, bowls, or platters, along with items from a tandoori menu and a variety of sides and drinks. Some locations operate late into the evening, typically open from 11 a.m. to midnight. The company has stated its intention to expand nationally across Canada and into the United States. No timeline has been shared for international growth.
