Toronto’s popular plant-based burger restaurant Soy Boys is set to open a new location in Leslieville, taking over the space at 1056 Queen St. E.

The company’s second location is set to take over the space formerly occupied by Samaira’s Kitchen, which closed in the spring of 2025 after nearly ten years in business, according to BlogTO. Founder Aleks Ross tells What Now Toronto that while there isn’t an exact opening date yet, the team is aiming for Labour Day weekend.

“We don’t have an exact date as renovations and patio permits are taking longer than expected, but we are aiming for Labour Day weekend!” Ross tells What Now Toronto. “We are going to have an extensive selection of beers made from all six of the Leslieville breweries.”

Since launching their original Church Wellesley Village location in 2022, Soy Boys has built a strong reputation for plant-based fast food staples, including burgers, chicken-style sandwiches and nuggets, waffle fries, and vegan soft-serve ice cream.

The Leslieville expansion marks the brand’s first move beyond its initial neighbourhood and adds to the area’s growing food scene, which has seen several new openings alongside closures of longtime spots like Samaira’s Kitchen.

Details on the new menu and exact opening timeline will be released closer to launch. For now, fans can expect Soy Boys to bring their signature vegan offerings along with local craft beers to Leslieville.

This site makes an excellent fit for Soy Boys’ next spot thanks to its strong food scene and growing demand for plant-based options. The area’s home to six local breweries, which ties in perfectly with the restaurant’s plan for an extensive beer list. With lots of foot traffic along Queen East and a neighborhood that supports local, it’s a smart move for Soy Boys’ first expansion outside the Village.
