The Beacon, a new restaurant from the creators of Souvlocke, is preparing to open in Hamilton at 4 Ottawa Street North.
The company’s newest concept is set to take over the former home of Caro Restaurant & Bar, according to the company’s social media. While the restaurant was initially expected to open in late September, owner Sam Girgis tells What Now Toronto that municipal challenges have slightly delayed the project. An updated opening timeline has not yet been confirmed.
Once open, customers can expect a menu that builds on the team’s success with Souvlocke, including souvlaki-focused dishes and Greek-inspired meals. Souvlocke, the team’s original venture, is known locally for its pork and chicken souvlaki, served in a variety of formats from pita wraps to family-style dinners. With The Beacon, the group is expected to introduce an expanded dining concept while staying rooted in the approachable, comfort-forward style of their original offering.
The new restaurant joins a growing culinary corridor along Ottawa Street North, known for its mix of small businesses, antique shops, and independent eateries. The location is situated in Hamilton’s Crown Point neighbourhood, an area that has experienced increased foot traffic and commercial interest over the past several years.
While full menu details for The Beacon have yet to be released, Souvlocke’s offerings include lemon potatoes, spanakorizo (spinach rice), and house-prepared souvlaki with wine and beer options. A similar mix of approachable Greek dishes and celebratory family dining is expected. The restaurant is currently hiring for both front and back-of-house staff as buildout continues.
