Wayback Burgers, a fast-casual restaurant chain known for its classic American-style burgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, and comfort food, is preparing to open two new locations in the Greater Toronto Area.
The company originated in Newark, Delaware, in 1991 under the name Jake’s Hamburgers but was rebranded as Wayback Burgers in 2010 to avoid confusion with other similarly named chains and to reflect its nostalgic, retro-inspired brand identity. Since then, Wayback Burgers has expanded globally and now has locations in more than 30 U.S. states and multiple international markets, including countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Now, according to the company’s website, two more locations are in the works.
The company will open a new location at 1510 Dundas Street East in Mississauga, while another site is coming to Sarnia at 580 Murphy Road. These will be the first two locations in Ontario. Rick Di Dominicis, who holds the title Master Franchisee in Canada over the Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada regions, will oversee operations through franchise agreements. Dominicis tells What Now Toronto that these new locations are expected to open sometime next month.
When these two new locations open later this year, customers can expect a menu focused on made-to-order burgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, and classic sides. Signature items include the “Cheeeesy” burger with four slices of American cheese and the “Triple Triple,” which stacks nine patties and nine cheese slices. The menu also offers chicken sandwiches, veggie burgers, and all-beef hot dogs. Sides include fries, onion rings, house-made chips, and milkshakes in flavors like vanilla, chocolate, and Oreo.
