Rise & Shine Hospitality Group Founder and Chief Executive Officer Johan Engman is moving forward with plans to add more options to the San Diego breakfast scene.

With several popular breakfast brands throughout the area, Engman is getting ready to open new locations for Breakfast Republic, Eggies, and Fig Tree Cafe.

Though the new Breakfast Republic in La Jolla has been in the works for a while, liquor licenses were filed last month for the general eating place, named Breakfast Republic & Eggies, as the project appears to be moving forward post-COVID.

Breakfast Republic first opened its doors in North Park in 2015 and opened a second location one year later. Eggies followed suit shortly after that, opening in Pacific Beach, East Village, Liberty Station, and most recently North Park.

With new locations planned for La Jolla and Mission Valley, Engman’s restaurants’ futures appear to be intertwined.

Breakfast Republic serves its own take on classic breakfast such as Oreo pancakes, shrimp and grits, and S’mores French Toast, while Eggies is more of a grab-and-go option.

Owner Johan Engman said in an email to What Now San Diego that he’s looking at multiple locations for furhter expansion.

Moving into a spot formerly occupied by Cruisers Gourmet, the new location, dubbed Breakfast Republic & Eggies, should get plenty of customers to grow both brands in the Village of La Jolla.

“It’s a great area,” Engman added.

Fig Tree Cafe, another restaurant from Engman, is planning on an expansion to Mission Valley which will also reportedly be paired with Eggies.
