Baracaida, an entertainment restaurant, bar, and lounge, announced it will be closing its doors at 601 Tchoupitoulas St. after 10 years of business. The owners said the business will be rebranded as a new project slated to open sometime between this summer and the fall. In its place will be the Latin-inspired restaurant, Mister Oso. The new restaurant comes as a three-packaged deal between a local restaurant developer and a Denver-based hospitality company, Culinary Creative Group.
Founded in Denver, Colorado, Mister Oso first opened in the fall of 2019 in the RiNo Arts District, according to the restaurant’s site. Now with two Denver locations, the brand has its sights set on expanding to New Orleans this September, bringing with them smoked meat tacos, Peruvian ceviche, and crudo. Paired with its rotating tacos, the menu comes loaded with drink options consisting of Latin American-made and inspired cocktails.
Leading the NOLA kitchen and creative direction as the executive chef will be Blake Edmunds, Mister Oso co-owner and renowned Colorado-based chef. Through his many years working in prestigious and local restaurants around Denver, Edmunds and the Culinary Creative Group helped open Señor Bear’s, another Latin American-themed restaurant, and the second Mister Oso location in 2022.
The Warehouse District location will undergo a complete renovation to match Mister Oso’s tropical and coastal restaurant design. The patio space at Baracaida will be revitalized using its glass walls to add depth to its outdoor and indoor spaces, as explained to The Times-Picayune. Baracaida’s attached club, the Ohm Lounge, will continue to be open near the new restaurant.
