Just because the music has stopped doesn’t mean that the party is over. While the departure of Karaoke Nemo has presented a serious blow to the neighborhood’s nightlife, an exciting new cocktail lounge is slated to replace it by next year.
The as-yet unnamed bar is a brand new concept from bar owner Samuel Miller. Filling in an expansive space located at 54 East 13th Street, Sam is planning on opening “A bar and lounge with contemporary, casual dining, featuring classic and specialty cocktails, wine, small plates and beer,” in a modern environment designed to help patrons relax after a hard day.
Sam is well-positioned to transform the space into an amazing neighborhood cocktail lounge, considering its ample room. Taking over the former home of Karaoke Nemo, Sam’s new bar will offer over 3,900 square feet of space divided between the ground floor and basement. With a potential total of 165 seats, Sam’s bar will have plenty of room to party with large groups of friends.
Karaoke Nemo opened on 13th street back in 2011. As one of the only under 21 karaoke clubs in the neighborhood, it became especially popular among the local NYU students, who can naturally never resist an invitation to sing (Go Violets!). The club sadly closed in 2019 and has remained vacant since. Students have been especially curious as to what would be replacing Nemo, though Sam’s new club will be strictly 21 and over.
Open daily from 7AM – 12:30AM on weekdays and 7AM – 2:30AM on Friday and Saturday, Sam’s bar will be sure to keep the party going well into the night. Look forward to further details emerging about the project later in 2022.
