Not long ago, What Now Charleston reported that the owner of a local catering company and grocery store was planning to open a restaurant, though details about the eatery were scarce at the time. Now, more information has emerged.
Merlinda “Mae” Walker is preparing to launch Mae’s Filipino Cuisine at 5325 Park Forest Pkwy, Suite A in North Charleston. The new restaurant will be located right next door to her other establishment, Mae’s Famous Asian Food in Suite B.
As previously mentioned, the restaurant will feature a range of classic Filipino dishes and breads, including silog (a breakfast dish with egg, beef, and fried rice), kare kare (peanut sauce stew), sinigang (garlic fried rice), and pandesal (a type of breakfast bread).
Although Walker has declined to comment on the expansion, a member of the Lowcountry Eat Out! Facebook group recently revealed that she spoke with Walker, who said she expects the eatery to open in the “coming months.”
