Sushi Dan is opening a second location in East Hollywood, located at 5230 Santa Monica Blvd.
This will be the first Sushi Dan with a sake bar, according to owner Michelle Yi. She tells What Now Los Angeles she hopes to open the new restaurant in early to mid-January, as long as city planning goes accordingly. The new Sushi Dan will also feature a new photo area so customers can take pictures and remember their experiences. On top of that, the restaurant will have a big New York-style patio and a glass-covered entrance, according to Yi.
The sushi restaurant first opened in 2001 in Studio City. Yi eventually opened two more locations, both with hard liquor private bars. Before opening the fourth location, Yi sold two of the sites, making this the second official operating Sushi Dan. Yi says she has mixed feelings about opening the second location following an unstable year for the industry.
“I’m excited and at the same time worried because of what’s going in the world and the pandemic,” she tells What Now Los Angeles. “It’s really affected the restaurant business, so I’m not sure how to feel about it. I have so many longtime customers at Sushi Dan, and we wanted to share it with the Hollywood district, so I went for it.”
