Tea House Formosa is shutting its Doraville doors for good on Wednesday, November 18, the Buford Highway Taiwanese teahouse and dessert eatery last week announced on its social media. Eater Atlanta was first to spot the unfortunate news. Tea House Formosa was in business for four years, at 5302 Buford Highway #A3.

“…it is with a heavy heart that I decided to cease our operation as of Wednesday 18th of November,” Owner Youssef M. wrote in a Facebook message Wednesday. “I want to thank all of you out there for your support (please continue to shop and support small businesses), as well as my wonderful staff who stepped up in these difficult times even when the risk outweighed the benefits.”

Tea House Formosa joins an ever-growing list of Atlanta-area eateries that have pulled the plug this year citing financial hardships brought on by the novel coronavirus pandemic. “Shout out to all researchers, nurses, doctors out there leading the way with your work to help us get back to living our normal lives, prayers for your success,” Youssef wrote. “We will continue to serve you the best we can until Wednesday and say ‘au-revoir’ then.”

Tea House Formosa was known for its “premium teas” that were grown at elevation, “hand-plucked and handled by expert artisans.” Desserts like cream puffs, pudding, and chiffon cake, also graced the menu.
