Tropics Jerk Center of Lithonia has been in operation since April 2014, when it debuted on Chupp Road with traditional Jamaican recipes prepared over a charcoal grill. The eatery is resolutely anti-oven when it comes to their signature dishes, and they have good reason.

“After living in Atlanta for a few years, we started our quest to finding a place which provided authentic Jamaican jerk chicken, so we tried several jerk spots in and around the Atlanta area and was not successful. The food was sometimes good, but still not the authentic taste we sought after or was looking for,” shares the eatery’s website, “Thus our decision to provide that ‘genuine authentic’ taste of Jamaican jerk cuisine.”

Over the years, the family owned and operated business has grown in popularity and production, so much so it appears Tropics will open an outpost on Moreland Ave in Atlanta. A permit application filed for 1160 Moreland Ave SW, Suite 100, shows the company’s intent to make a few alterations to the existing space. Tropics will build out a new cooler/freezer space and employee break room. All new flooring, wall finishes, and kitchen equipment are also on the list.

We were unable to reach the restaurant for comment at the time of publication, so the opening timeline remains unclear. You can and should find Tropics on social media to see what’s for supper.
