One of New York’s best Thai seafood restaurants is currently gearing up to embark on a massive new expansion,
Fish Cheeks is a Thai seafood restaurant founded by chefs Ohm and Chat Suansilphong as well as Jenn Saesue and Pranwalai Kittirattanawiwat. Established in 2016 at 55 Bond Street, Fish Cheeks is a vibrant restaurant that serves contemporary Thai food with a focus on seafood, named after what Thai cuisine considers to be the tastiest and most tender part of the fish – the cheeks.
With a critically acclaimed menu offering less familiar takes on Thai seafood, Fish Cheeks is a deeply personal concept for the team that celebrates their cultural heritage and expands New Yorkers’ perceptions about what Thai cuisine looks like. Highlighting the unfiltered flavors the founders craved in their upbringing, Fish Cheeks has been celebrated by critics across the city, including a glowing two star review from the New York Times.
Now, as the restaurant continues to rise in popularity, it has become necessary for the team to expand their operation. Opening up a Fish Cheeks in 2019 in the Time Out Market, the team also operates a sister restaurant called Chicks Isan and is now planning on expanding their original location, nearly doubling their available space. Jenn and the Fish Cheeks team have just acquired the lease for the space next door at 53 Bond Street, and are intending on incorporating the new building into their existing operation. Once complete, the new expansion will offer an additional 1,822 square feet of space and will be able to accommodate 78 guests.
The space at 53 Bond Street was previously occupied by Adore Floral, a popular flower shop that has been serving the neighborhood since 2005. It does not appear that Fish Cheeks will be making any substantial changes to its menu or operation during this transition, but you can follow the restaurant on Instagram to follow their progress with the new expansion.
