Carmelita’s Kitchen De Mexico is close to unveiling their authentic Mexican cuisine next to Petco Park. From Carmelita’s Group, which operates Carmelita’s restaurants in Orange County and Sacramento areas, will open their first San Diego location at Park 12.
The family-owned restaurant dates back to 1962, created by Alberto and Carmen Heredia. Since then, future generations of the Heredia family have grown the restaurant to multiple locations and preserved their Grandma Carmelita’s legacy.
Their menu offers traditional entrees like enchiladas, tacos, and Chile Relleno, plus specialty plates straight from the grill like Grandma’s Carnitas and Fajitas. They also serve a variety of margaritas, specialty cocktails, and sangria.
Recent photos from the new outpost in San Diego show a vibrant setting with a mix of modern and rustic decor. The restaurant is adorned with traditional Mexican tapestries and artwork depicting classic Mexican film star, Cantinflas.
