Doughnut shop closes. National coffee retailer rumored to dunk in its place.
UPDATE (Feb. 16, 2012): Starbucks to replace Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins on Ponce de Leon Avenue
The Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins brand has shuttered its Ponce de Leon Avenue location.
An off-duty cop told What Now Atlanta on a trip to the location Tuesday, it will be replaced by Starbucks.
The doughnut and ice cream shop duo closed after passing on lease renewal due to financial hardships, he said.
Stewart Miller, leasing agent for Midtown Place, told What Now Atlanta over the phone Tuesday that several tenants were in negotiation for the space. He could not confirm or deny Starbucks’ intent to open there.
The Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins is located inside the Midtown Place shopping center across from the soon-to-be developed Ponce City Market.
Midtown Place is a 256,712-square-foot anchored by The Home Depot, PetSmart, Staples and Whole Foods. Borders Books & Music, one of its larger tenants, is going out of business.
Developing…
Because the Starbucks on Monroe is just too far from there.
Not opining on a chain vs. local shop. But it’s very smart on Starbucks’ part. Forward looking because of the redevelopment across the street. Will be very successful without poaching too much from Monroe.
The Starbucks on Monroe isn’t terribly far from this one, but let’s be real. The drive from Midtown Promenade to Midtown Place is stupidly inconvenient, unless you’re biking the Beltline :).
It’ll be awkward for Starbucks if they ever bridge the gap from Promenade and here

Awesome! Hope they have drive thru so I can pick up my coffee and a day laborer.
Hope they take the space. But where will the cops go, who sit all night at Dunkin Donuts?
