One of New York’s newest and best ramen restaurants is currently undergoing a plan to become that much better.
Marufuku Ramen was founded in San Francisco by owners Eiichi Mochizuki and Koji Kikura in 2017. Known for its flavorful and indulgent dishes, Marufuku focuses on Hakata-style tonkotsu, a kind of ramen that features creamy pork bone broth and thin noodles. The restaurant also features popular dishes like chicken paitan, gyoza, takoyaki, and steamed buns. Today, Eiichi and Koji’s restaurant can be found in select locations in California, Texas, and now New York.
In the summer of 2021, Eiichi and Koji established the first New York outpost for Marufuku at 92 Second Avenue. Featuring the same 20-hour broth that made the original so popular in San Francisco, Marufuku quickly became one of the neighborhood’s top ramen spots. At the moment, the restaurant currently operates with a beer, wine, and cider license and has become a popular spot for local dates. Now though, the owners are in the process of upgrading their restaurant with a full liquor license.
Currently in the process of applying with the community board, if successful the new license will enable Marufuku to serve imported and domestic spirits, as well as specialty cocktails crafted exclusively for the restaurant. The change will also see Marufuku extend its operating hours. Right now, Marufuku operates from 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday. Once the new license is acquired though, Marufuku is expected to operate from 11:30 AM – 12:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:30 AM – 1:00 AM Friday and Saturday.
