You may recognize The Alley from social media, with gorgeous boba drinks and their rustic logo adorned with a male deer. Per a recent permit filing with the city, San Diego may be getting our first location of the stylish tea cafe. The permit places The Alley at Balboa Mesa Shopping Center on Balboa Avenue at Genesee in Clairemont Mesa.

The Alley’s growth is led by Orange County’s Kei Concepts. The restaurant group brought the first US location of The Alley to Fountain Valley, CA in 2019. Since then they have opened locations in Irvine, Las Vegas, Honolulu, and Katy, TX.

Specializing in milk and bubble teas, The Alley makes their signature “Deerioca” (brown sugar boba pearls) in house daily. “Do not shake,” their social media warns! Their boba is served warm and is best enjoyed once stirred nine times before drinking as not to alter the temperature of the Deerioca.

The Alley’s signature drinks include the Matcha Brown Sugar Deerioca Milk, with house-made Matcha and Deerioca, plus your choice of milk. For something fresh and fruity, try their Snow Strawberry Lulu with sweetened fruit tea, topped with strawberries and cheese foam.

No word yet on when we can expect the San Diego outpost of The Alley to open. Get to know their drinks by following their Instagram
