Two years in the making, China Max is planning a comeback at their original location in Kearny Mesa. According to a recent permit filing, the restaurant is one step closer to reopening on Convoy Street’s Plaza del Sol Shopping Center.

In April of 2020, their building caught fire due to what was officially determined to be caused by faulty electrical wiring. The restaurant has been out of operation since, posting on their social media in 2021 to notify their devoted guests that they would return in 2022.

Open since 2003, China Max specializes in authentic Cantonese dishes and dim sum. Popular menu items include Peking Duck, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Pepper Steak, and steamed pork dumplings.

What Now San Diego has reached out to the team from China Max for an update on their reopening plans. No announcement has been made on social media since 2021. Follow on Facebook for more from China Max.
