Upbeat bakery and coffee shop West Town Bakery is looking to open a new location in Wheeling, located at 781 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The company’s fifth location will be joined by a new dispensary called OKAY Cannabis Experience as two separate businesses replacing the 11,900-square-foot Twin Peaks, which closed in 2019. The new companies will sit northwest of the Westin Chicago North Shore hotel, just south of Lake-Cook Road. West Town Bakery, owned and operated by Fifty/ 50 Group, currently has four locations throughout Chicago. Village Manager Jon Sfondilis said the proposed businesses would be “great additions to the corridor.”

Under state law, the bakery will not feature any cannabis-infused products. The building will have a single entry and lobby used for both businesses, according to Village documents submitted by a limited liability company called CESAM and Fifty/50 Group. The building will also have room for corporate and private events. No significant facade or landscaping changes have been proposed.

If the bakery is approved, it will become the primary dessert spot for the surrounding area, including Abacor Shopping Center. Other nearby restaurants include Spears Bourbon Burgers Beer, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, and Saranello’s. When the bakery opens, guests can expect various cakes ranging from wedding cakes to signature cakes and cupcakes. To make it all better, the company has something for everyone, with cakes that are vegan, nut-free, soy-free, gluten-free, and even dairy-free.
