One of Miami’s most exclusive private clubs is getting ready to launch their first foray into New York.
Casa Tua is well known as a swanky private members club that marries upscale sophistication with a simplistic zest for life and friendship. The club was established in 2001 by founder Miky Grendene, a Milan-based entrepreneur who moved to Miami in 1989 to take part in the economic resurgence of South Beach. With over 30 years of hospitality expertise, Grendene and his wife Leticia set out to build what they considered an extension of their own home, a welcoming place for friends, family, and guests from around the world, and Casa Tua was born.
Providing an “intimate environment for a life well-lived,” Casa Tua is known in Miami for its curated art program, exclusive event calendar, beautiful garden spaces, and an unforgettable gourmet dining experience. Famed especially for their 20-seat Chef’s Table, Casa Tua pairs organic, ethically sourced ingredients with an extensive yet familiar wine list, fine art, welcoming service, and friendly company. Miky and Letitia wanted to establish a place that feels like the home of your closest friend, and every piece of detail at Casa Tua was designed to cultivate a feeling a warmth and indulgent familiarity.
Soon though, New Yorkers will soon have exclusive access the iconic club when they launch their first-ever New York expansion later this year. Yesterday, we covered the story of Daniel Boulud’s plans to reopen his iconic cafe in a new space, and now more information has been disclosed about the future of the former Cafe Boulud. As mentioned previously, the cafe shut down during Covid when The Surrey Hotel went bankrupt. The Surrey Hotel at 20 East 76th Street has since been acquired by Reuben Brothers, a UK-based private investment firm. One of their largest businesses, Corinthia Hotels, is currently slated to take over the former Surrey Hotel and work is already well-underway to make that happen.
Corinthia was founded in 1962 by Alfred Pisani and has since risen up to become one of Europe’s most elegant hotel companies. Corinthia operates numerous upscale hotels across London, Budapest, Lisbon and more, and soon they will be launching their first New York expansion in the former Surrey Hotel. Excitingly, Corinthia will be bringing along Casa Tua as its flagship food and beverage component, which will replace the former Cafe Boulud.
While Corinthia and Casa Tua have been hard at work redeveloping the space over the past two years, they are reaching the end of their development and moving into the next step, currently applying for a full liquor license for both the hotel and the club. According to Corinthia Hotels, the opening has been scheduled for sometime this year, but further information is pending their liquor license approval.
