New York oenophiles are in for an exciting new treat!

Creston is a new restaurant and bar concept from owner Tomohiro Sato. Sato is a highly respected sommelier based out of New York and is perhaps best known for his Midtown wine bar, Elevage. With over 25 years of experience in hospitality, Sato has spent his life traveling through the world’s most important wine regions and has cultivated a reputation as one of the city’s premiere wine experts.

His latest concept, Creston, is currently slated to open up at 282 Grand Street and is envisioned as a “restaurant wine/whiskey bar with a focus on wine”. According to Sato, his goal with Creston is to build strong relationships in the community and “introduce local residents… to new and exciting wines and to help them develop a greater appreciation and understanding of the world of wine.” The location is relatively intimate for the neighborhood, and is expected to seat an estimated 12 guests inside at one time. According to Sato, the intimacy of the premises means that Creston will be reservation-only.

According to a sample menu provided by Sato, Creston will serve a menu of light tapas-style dishes designed to pair with Creston’s impressive beverage program. Sample dishes include homemade tofu and carpaccio, fried tuna skewers, salmon, lamb chops, and fried shishito. Of course, the real star of the show will be the beverage program, and Sato has put together an incredibly robust selection of wines and whiskeys that will celebrate everything that Sato has learned throughout his travels across the globe.

Now, Sato and his team are getting ready to meet with the community board and apply for the necessary liquor license. They are proposing operating hours of 6:00 AM – 1:00 AM Sunday through Wednesday, and 6:00 AM – 2:00 AM Thursday through Saturday. While Creston is still too early into development to have its own social media presence, you can follow Sato himself on Instagram for updates on all of his latest endeavors.
