Located at 9614 Pine Blvd. in Pembroke Pines, near the intersection with Southwest 96th Avenue, Jamaican restaurant Tropical Twist is coming under new ownership and is headed for a rebrand. The restaurant’s name will change to The Jerk Stop.

The name change will take place early in the new year, owner-in-waiting Sean Mills told What Now in a phone call on Thursday, but the rebrand is not expected to be fully completed for a little longer.

“I’m converting it to my concept,” Mills said. “That conversion is going to take time.”

The update to the concept keeps the Jamaican cuisine (as the name suggests) and expands on it, with a focus on Jamaican barbecue, along with some fusion dishes. The menu will feature familiar Jamaican foods like Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat, and Oxtail, and in its expanded form (once a smoker and other equipment are added to the kitchen) it will also offer smoked brisket with traditional Caribbean seasonings.

Also on the fusion side, Mills added, picture dishes like a Jerk Chicken Egg Roll. Add to this some fresh, homemade juices and you can get a sense of the menu.

So, just one question: When can we expect to try that smoked brisket?

“I’m hoping for April or May,” Mills said.

In other words, the Jerk Stop should be fully rolled out just in time for summer.
