Chipotle Mexican Grill is expanding its San Diego footprint with a new location coming to Lake Murray at 8856 Navajo Rd.
The fresh Mexican restaurant chain is looking to move into the former home of Carl’s Jr. in the San Carlos Village Shopping Mall, according to intel received by What Now San Diego. This will be the first Chipotle in Lake Murray, with the next closest sites in Santee and La Mesa. A representative from the company tells What Now San Diego this site is expected to open in Spring 2024, and will feature a Chipotlane. This will be the 15th Chipotle in San Diego.
The news of the new San Diego location comes on the heels of the brand bringing back Carne Asada in the U.S. and Canada for a limited time. Chipotle fans have expressed their love for the popular protein for years, and this marks the third time it is returning to Chipotle’s menu. Carne Asada debuted in September 2019 as Chipotle’s second limited-time protein offering and quickly became a guest favorite.
“Over the past few years, our fans’ passion for Carne Asada has rivaled any other Chipotle menu item,” Chris Brandt, Chief Brand Officer, said in a news release. “Now, we’ve answered the call, brought back this iconic protein, and introduced an entirely new way to try Carne Asada with the Carne Asada Quesadilla.”
This is just one of many new locations Chipotle is currently working on. The fast-growing company is working on new locations in Charlotte, Detroit, Oxford, MS; and Rock Hill, SC, amongst many more. All locations will be corporate-owned and feature the restaurant’s simple yet beloved menu where customers can create their own bowls, burritos, or tacos.
