A local restarateur is preparing to return to San Diego with two new concepts, Paradis and Communion, coming to Mission Hills at 901 W Washington St.
Jacquee Renna Downing was born and raised in San Diego but currently operates two notable restaurants in the Coachella Valley area: La Quinta Cliffhouse and Pacifica Seafood in Palm Desert. Now, she is getting ready to return to San Diego with two new concepts coming to The Sasan, a seven-story, 54-unit building at W. Washington, according to Eater San Diego. Paradis and Communion are expected to open by the end of the year.
The new multi-use development is the latest from local firm Nakhshab Development & Design. At the base of the commercial space will be Paradis, an all-day sidewalk cafe with an outdoor courtyard offering coffee, tea, and pastries during the day. At night, the eatery will transition to an evening menu featuring martinis, tapas, and other small bites. No matter what time of the day, the space will resemble the vibes of a Parisian cafe.
On the roof, Downing plans to open Communion for dinner and eventually brunch options. There will be enough space for over 100 guests between the restaurant’s indoor and outdoor seating. As for food, customers can expect shared plates inspired by coastal cuisines around the globe. Downing tells Eater there will be an emphasis on seafood while including plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. There will also be a complete cocktail program with a handful of mocktails. The Southern California restaurateur is currently experimenting with making its own alcohol-free spirits.
