A brand new family-owned restaurant, Ernie’s Craft Deli & Wine Bar, is getting ready to open next year in Encinitas at 114 N. El Camino Real.

This new eatery is set to move into the former home of Elizabethan Desserts and the 50’s Cafe in the Encinitas Marketplace, according to the company’s Instagram. Co-owners Erin and Dave Goodman hope to open the new concept early next year, offering gourmet sandwiches, boutique wines, a marketplace where customers can shop for goods to bring home, and more. Ernie’s Craft Deli & Wine Bar will also have gluten- and dairy-free options and serve as a space for community events.

“An evening at Ernie’s Craft Deli and Wine Bar will transport you straight to the Big City with its retro decor, intimate lighting, and our passion for amazing food and service. Savor gourmet bites, sip on our carefully curated wines, and enjoy live acoustic music as we bring the heart of New York’s finest delis to Encinitas. In early 2025, you can gather your friends, relax, and soak in the cozy, laid-back atmosphere. Whether you come for the food, the music, or just the vibes—you’re part of the Ernie’s family.”

This is a massive achievement for the owners, who share a deep passion rooted in their long family traditions of hospitality, feeding others, and savoring the beauty of fine wine. Dave grew up in Northern California, where his kitchen was often filled with meats from the best Jewish delis, homemade meatballs and sauce, and desserts and bread sourced from the best bakeries in San Francisco. On the other hand, Erin grew up in a family on the Central Coast with a passion for wine. Her grandfather, Gordon Anderson, retired from St. Helena to fulfill his lifelong dream of winemaking. Together, and with the help of their family, they will open Ernie’s Craft Deli & Wine Bar so more people of Encinitas can have a place to relax and enjoy some delicious food and wine.

“Come for the food, stay for the good vibes,” according to the company’s Instagram. “Whether you’re catching up with coworkers, grabbing a quick bite, having a drink at the bar while catching the game, or browsing our marketplace for local treats, lunchtime at Ernie’s will have something for everyone. We are looking forward to having you join us for an unforgettable experience where you can sip on your new favorite wine, savor gourmet delights, and enjoy the soulful sounds of local artists. It’s all about creating the perfect atmosphere for you to relax, unwind, and connect with friends.”
