After several delays, Rachel’s Cafe & Eatery, located at 668 Main St, is finally preparing to open in Ramona.
This is the latest from Rachel Ludwig, who closed Rachel’s Urban Eatery in 2021. She recently submitted a liquor license application to open her new restaurant in the former home of Mi Sonora Querida. Ludwig tells What Now San Diego that she hopes to open this new location in early December, in time for Ramona’s 32nd Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 7th. The new restaurant will offer various farm-fresh options to customers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
This is a massive achievement for Ludwig, considering she initially hoped to open this restaurant at 1520 Main St., near 15th Street. She tells What Now San Diego that after nearly two years of delays from the permitting process and several tens of thousands of dollars in investment, the ownership team decided it was no longer a viable option to move into that space and quickly searched for a new home for the restaurant. Another reason why this is such a significant accomplishment for the business owner is because it honors the legacy of her mother and son, both of which have passed away in the last six years.
When the new restaurant opens in time for the holidays, customers can expect a variety of fresh food made without preservatives or being frozen. Much like Ludwig’s first restaurant, next door to Ramona Mainstage, Rachel’s Cafe & Eatery’s menu will feature a little bit of everything, including burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, appetizers, and desserts. Unlike the planned initial location on Main Street, this new location will not have any barbeque options, considering Ludwig would need a separate permit. Most of Ludwig’s former Rachel’s Urban Eatery employees will join her in opening the new restaurant.
