It’s five o’clock somewhere, and if you’re looking for a new Lower East Side haunt to add to your laundry list of local bars, you’re in luck.
David’s Tavern is the latest bar to arrive on the Lower East Side. Moving into the spot at 76 Forsyth Street, between Hester Street and Grand, David’s Tavern is operated by mixologist David Suarez. David has been mixing master drinks for years in Jersey and is sure to take his expertise with him to his new tavern.
Like most Lower East Side bars, David’s tavern is expected to be a small, casual affair. A cozy yet intimate tavern, it will be able to accommodate 5 tables with a total of 14 seats, as well as one L-shaped bar that is 10 feet long. While there are no plans to play live music or promoted events, David’s will operate well into the night, from 5pm-2am Sunday through Thursday, and 5pm-4am on Fridays and Saturdays.
David’s will also be serving light tavern food, such as mozzarella sticks and stuffed jalapenos. They’ll also offer cheeseburgers and wings, but that’s about as big of a meal as they intend to serve.
David’s will be replacing Steam House, which previously operated at 76 Forsyth. Steam House was a new Chinese restaurant that opened in the neighborhood that showed a lot of promise. Unfortunately for the owners, they launched their Grand Opening on march 8th, 2020, days before a global pandemic would shut the world down for over a year. Naturally, Steam House has permanently shuttered its doors while the owners pivot to a new venture.
David hasn’t specified when he intends to open his new tavern, but he still at least a few months away. He only just submitted his application for community approval back in September, so he hasn’t even been able to get started until this month.
