One of Chicago’s best-known chefs is currently gearing up to bring one of his most successful concepts to Times Square.

Chef Rick Bayless is a Michelin-starred celebrity chef and host of the popular television show Mexico – One Plate at a Time. Known for his expertise in Mexican cuisine, Bayless is considered a master of his craft and was even awarded the prestigious Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle by the Mexican Government. The winner of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, Bayless has been delighting customers with his culinary creations since launching Frontera Grill in 1987.

Since launching Frontera Grill, Bayless’s career has been unstoppable, and three decades later he is going stronger than ever. His latest concept, Tortazo, has earned him serious acclaim from critics and customers alike since it opened at Chicago’s Willis Tower in 2020. According to Bayless, Tortazo is all about offering “soul-satisfying” food and drinks, served with the generous spirit of hospitality that customers have to expect from Rick’s impressive portfolio of restaurants.

Elevating the fast-casual Mexican restaurant with a dedication to premium ingredients and masterful preparation, New Yorkers fell in love with Tortazo when it launched its first NYC location in NoMad last year. Thankfully, Bayless and the Tortazo team are preparing to open up a second location, this time opening up in the heart of Times Square.

The latest Tortazo will be moving into the space at 1441 Broadway. Currently slated for a Summer 2022 opening, it’s possible that the project could still face some delays, as the project was initially conceived before the outbreak of the recent pandemic. One of the interesting things to note about the restaurant is that the different locations will have different menus, as Bayless believes every location deserves an experience that caters to its specific clientele.
