A brand new pub is currently gearing up to open in Midtown West.
Chef Adam Schop is one of New York’s great chefs working in the city today. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America, Schop spent some of his most formative years mastering the art of cooking in Mississippi and Arizona. He made a powerful name for himself when he served as Chef de Cuisine at Phoenix’s popular Zinc Bistro, and eventually was able to move to New York and found a restaurant of his very own – Nuela.
In operation from 2008 – 2012, Nuela introduced New York to chef Schop, whose “Arroz con Pato” was selected as one of the Top 10 Dishes in the New York Times. Today, you might recognize him as the Director of Operations of the East Village’s Miss Lily’s, the popular West Indian bar and restaurant known for its vibrant interior and Jamaican-inspired flavor. Now, it appears that Schop has got a brand new concept under his sleeve being planned for Midtown West.
Schop’s latest project, which has still yet to be named, will be opening up at 574 9th Avenue. Currently operating under the name 574 SB LLC, the new concept will be replacing Irish Bar, a popular (you guessed it) Irish bar that closed last year. As a former bar, the space is well-suited for Schop’s vision, which will have a total capacity of 74 guests. Schop is currently proposing operating hours of 12:00PM – 4:00 AM, and is planning on providing background music as well as a juke box for guests.
For the menu, Schop will be offering traditional pub fare like chicken wings, burgers (with Impossible alternatives), and fries and even a cookie. Like any good pub though, the real star will be the drinks and the atmosphere. Schop is currently in the process of finalizing approval from the SLA, so the operational hours are subject to change if the board finds it necessary, though there appears to be no substantial operational difference between Schop’s concept and the Irish Bar that formerly occupied the space.
