After the beloved Benny Blanco’s shuttered its Capitol Hill location on August 31, the neighborhood was left without a go-to place for a late-night slice. But now a new pizza spot is taking over the space at 616 E 13th Ave., according to a Westword article.

James Bedwell, owner of the adjacent music venue Your Mom’s House, is opening the venue with chef John Mora. It’s called Tua Mama’s Pizzeria, and will focus on thin-crust, traditional New York-style pizza while also offering a variety of vegan and gluten-free options.

Mora’s family has decades of experience in the pizza business, and he has gained a loyal local following for his creative vegan pies through pop-ups and a short-lived Colfax outpost.

An added window connecting Tua Mama’s to Your Mom’s House will integrate the businesses, allowing patrons to order pizza from within the venue. It serves as a music hall and comedy club, and is also in the works with a new bar concept that will open within it.

Benny Blanco’s held its place in Capitol Hill for 24 years, serving New York-style pizza into the early morning hours. The exact opening date for the new concept is still under wraps.
