Cafenated Coffee Company, the ethically sourced café that prioritizes coffee grown from women-owned farms, will be opening their second brick-and-mortar location in Berkeley some time next year at 2960 College Ave, Berkeley.

The ethics-focused company, founded by husband and wife team Mak and Parissa Jamasbi first came to Berkeley in April, 2019 with a mission to cut the middlemen and brokers out of their coffee supply chain. They began as an online retailer for single-origin coffee from South and Central America and quickly grew into becoming one of Berkeley’s favorite cafés.

Instead of sourcing their coffee from brokers who take a cut of the net profits, Cafenated Coffee gets their supply directly from woman-owned farming cooperatives. This allows the farmers to retain a greater share of their profits while providing the company with premium coffee.

Outside of just coffee, Cafenated Coffee also offers a few unusual options for curious customers to try, such as Swedish Iced Coffee and Vietnamese Egg Coffee. They also serve breakfast, sandwiches, and salads from local vendors.

The new location is a significant upgrade for the rapidly-expanding roaster and will feature 3,000 square feet of space right on the corner of College and Ashby Avenues. The area is home to all kinds of cafés and restaurants, but Cafenated Coffee stands out with its vertically-integrated roasting process and dedication to funding woman-owned cooperatives in Central and South America.

While details on the new expansion are still very light considering that the lease was only signed this week, Mak was able to confirm with What Now San Francisco that he envisions the new location being ready by early 2022.
