A new dessert franchise is joining the diverse bakery scene in Arden Fair. Woops! Macarons & Gifts has signed a lease for a space inside Arden Fair Mall directly across from JCPenny. The new dessert shop is operated by local franchisee Deneva Shelton and husband Terrence Shelton. The new shop is anticipated to open in early February, most likely before Valentine’s Day.

Shelton most recently served as a community manager for Chase Bank and held a similar role at Golden 1 Credit Union for nearly 19 years prior to that. Shelton is also the current CEO of the nonprofit organization Nehemiah Community Foundation, marking her transition from her corporate career to a more community-centered future.

Shelton struggled with gluten allergy, and macarons were one of the few desserts she could happily enjoy since they’re made from almond flour. Therefore, Whoops! Macarons & Gift was a perfect fit. The New York-based chain operates more than 25 retail stores and kiosks throughout the US, featuring approximately 18 French macaron flavors, including blueberry cheesecake, Nutella, red velvet, honey lavender, dulce de leche, and tiramisu.

The Arden Fair Mall location will be a kiosk with approximately four employees. Shelton is also looking into opening a second location once the kiosk is up and running. Shelton stated she’d prefer similar high-traffic shopping areas, potentially Westfield Galleria in Roseville. The Arden Fair Mall kiosk will be the franchise’s second California location. The first Woops! was opened in Ontario in 2018. In addition to on-site retail and dining services, all Woops! locations also offer catering for weddings and corporate events.
