Classic arcade games and pinball machines will light up downtown Mesa, hopefully by the end of the summer. The Beer Research Institute is opening a new taproom, but that isn’t all. BRI is bringing Mesa an old school arcade to accent their brews.
The new location at 213 and 215 W Main Street is locked in, owner Matt Trethewey told What Now Phoenix, and the space is currently in the design and layout phase.
The taproom will feature BRI’s signature beers as well as local cider, Arizona wine, and some guest beers from other local breweries. The accompanying arcade will house 33 classic arcade games from Ms. Pac-Man to Donkey Kong, and everything in between, not to mention ten or so pinball machines.
While the Taproom won’t have a kitchen in-house, Trethewey says patrons will be encouraged to frequent the downtown neighborhood and bring in food to enjoy. “On the weekends and busier nights, we will absolutely be bringing in food trucks to supplement that and make sure people can eat, and drink, and play, all at the same time,” Trethewey added.
While Trethewey says the opening date of course depends on permits, he’s hoping the taproom will be pouring brews sometime in August.
