Tía Carmen is a new restaurant debuting early next year at the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in North Scottsdale. The concept is brought to us by Chef Angelo Sosa, who at the time of publication has been contacted but has not yet responded for comment.
Named for Sosa’s beloved Dominican aunt, Tía Carmen will be a contemporary Southwestern restaurant intended to celebrate the community, the land, and most especially the farmers. “These farmers in the community are humble, they have stories. There’s heritage, there’s lineage, there’s honor, there’s respect — just like my Tía Carmen,” Sosa says in a promotional video for the restaurant.
He recalls, “Her food was balanced. It was spicy. It was dynamic, and at the root of it you could taste the spirit and the love of Tía Carmen, and the passion that she brought to her food.”
A recent Craiglsist ad hiring for all positions notes that the upscale dining space will host 419 seats and will serve a tapas style experience unique to the Phoenix area. For more information visit www.jwdesertridge.com.
