The Jerk Pit Bringing Jamaican Food, Vibes to Mid-City in Baton Rouge

The restaurant is expected to offer classic Jamaican food, alcohol and outdoor grilling.

Nothing washes away the stresses of the day like the smells, sights, sounds, and flavors of Jamaican food, and a planned new restaurant called The Jerk Pit is expected to bring all of that to Mid-City in Baton Rouge in 2024.

As both a first-generation Jamaican-American and chief of staff at the Louisiana Department of Health, owner David Timoll is more qualified than most to open a Jamaican restaurant. According to documents filed with the city, Timoll is planning to open The Jerk Pit in a former dentist’s office at 662 South Foster Dr., and the necessary rezoning for a restaurant serving alcohol will be considered by the Baton Rouge Planning Commission in December. According to 225 Magazine, the restaurant will serve classic Jamaican dishes and feature both outdoor grilling and dining.

The opening of the Jerk Pit in 2024 would only fuel the ongoing development in Mid-City. All kinds of dining, drinking, and entertainment destinations have popped up in recent years, and many of them are influencing each other, creating a sort of cultural incubator. In fact, outdoor cooking at the Barracuda Taco Stand on Government Street is serving as inspiration for the outdoor grilling that is planned for The Jerk Pit.
