Having plans to expand across Louisiana and into Texas, the Lafayette-based Soul Haus Kitchen recently announced plans to open a second location in Carencro.

The fast-casual restaurant has been rapidly growing its popularity in Acadiana with a classic soul food menu that includes fried chicken, fried catfish and smothered pork chop. Soul Haus also has a lunch plate menu that rotates daily. For example, a recent Monday menu featured red beans and rice, fried pork chop and beef or shrimp yakamein, while a recent Wednesday menu featured smothered chicken and crawfish etouffee. The restaurant also serves a seasonal crawfish and crab boils. Owner Dang Nguyen recently told What Now New Orleans that having a rotating menu just feels natural.

“As consumers, we like to eat different things every day,” he said. “So that’s why I came up with regularly changing the menu. But we do serve some items like our red beans and rice every day.”

The first location of Soul Haus Kitchen opened in Lafayette in September 2022, and Nguyen said the decision to place a second location in nearby Carencro was based on demographics and untapped market potential. The new location is slated to open in March, and Nguyen added that the company’s next move will likely be toward Baton Rouge.
