The owners of Café Degas have had a winning formula with their classic French fare, and they are now planning to open a second café called Le Ponce nearby at 3133 Ponce De Leon St. The second café in Faubourg St. John will serve coffee, sandwiches, salads and pastries. According to a filing with the City of New Orleans, the owners plan to eventually offer alcohol, but will not do so at first. What Now New Orleans was able to confirm that the new café will have the same owners as Café Degas, but a representative did not offer additional details as of this writing.

Café Degas opened in 1986 as a classic French bistro. In addition to building a clientele with its classic French dishes, the restaurant also earned rave reviews for incorporating the outdoors of the surrounding Faubourg St. John neighborhood. The café is also known for having a tree growing through the middle of the dining room. Customers have favorably compared dining in Café Degas to eating in a treehouse.
