Mission BBQ, a fast-casual Maryland-based BBQ eatery, is preparing to open a new location at 4518 E Cactus Road in Paradise Valley.
Previously, What Now Phoenix reported that the company opened its first location in Phoenix in the upcoming Surprise City Center development, slated to take over one square mile between Bell and Greenway roads and Bullard Ave and Litchfield Rd. While this location is still in the works, Mission BBQ is now slated to open next to Panera Bread on the perimeter of the former Paradise Valley Mall in northeast Phoenix, according to the company’s website. The restaurant is expected to open in late February.
Mission BBQ is making its debut in Arizona, although the company already has nearly 150 locations across 20 states. Their menu features barbecue classics such as ribs, brisket, pulled pork and chicken, turkey, and sausage. Customers can also enjoy a variety of sides, including mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, green beans, and fries. Founded on September 11, 2011, by Steve Newton and Bill Kraus, the restaurant aims to create a welcoming atmosphere filled with tributes to those who serve in the military. Additionally, Mission BBQ plays the national anthem each day at lunchtime.
While the new location is expected to open late next month, the company is still working on its location at Elm Street, coming to Surprise City Center, a larger mixed-use entertainment space with retail, restaurants, multi-family developments, office space, a city park, and more. Other tenants that are under construction and coming soon to the development include Farmer Boys, Jet’s Pizza, Lush Nails & Spa, Osteria Mia, Pacific Dental Services, Peterson’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Pita Kitchen, Ridgehouse at Surprise Center, Salon Lofts, Taco Chilango, and Venetian Nail Lounge.
